Ohakune/Karioi are into the championship finals at Spriggins Park, after an outstanding game against Waverly in front of a large crowd on Saturday. It was a hard game with both teams wanting to stay on top. Waverley scored a try in the first minute of . play putting a bit of pressure on Ohakune/Karioi who were determmed not to let Waverley have their way. Waverley' s tension grew high, making mistakes which cost them three penalties, in the firsthalf, making half-time score 9-5 to Ohakune/Karioi. In the second-half of the game Ohakune/Karioi totally dominated play with Josaia
Vokaibusa scoring a try and Ohakune/Karioi gaining another three penalties off the boot of Lachlan Harding following Waverley's panicky mistakes. Richard Mathews and Lachlan Harding played an outstanding game and veteran Whetu Mareikura outplayed Wanganui's representative player Paul Mitchell. The front row of Ohakune/Karioi 's Wills brothers, Mike and Brendon, and Frank Matenga were just too strong for Waverley's front-row. The whole forward pack worked hard as a team, bringing the final score to 23-12. Players-of-the-day were: Richard Mathews and Whetu Mareikura. Supporter's-player-of-the-day was Josaia Vokaibusa
(Joe). Hard-out-player Brendon Wills. Lachlan Harding six penalties, Josaia Vokaibusa 1 try. The finals are next Sunday at Spriggens Park at 2.45pm and all supporters are most welcome.
