Council plan 'fait accompli'
Submissions to the Ruapehu District Council's 1993-94 Draft Annual Plan were of little use because of the timing of the process, Waimarino Community Board member Bob Peck said at their meeting last week. He said the plan and the public submissions should be considered by the community boards before being adopted. This year he said most were merely 'received' by the council as there was no time to make any alterations. 'This plan was a fait accompli," he said. "I wouldn't waste five minutes on preparing a submission - it's only received and answered by council officers and not able to be considered by Council." Board member John Compton said the council was hoping to streamline the procedure so there was more time for considering submissions in future years.
