New snow chain rules for mtn road

Turoa's mountain manager Grant McMaster told the Bulletin yesterday that the Ohakune Mountain Road chain requirements passed by Ruapehu District Council last week will mean that, in certain conditions, all vehicles(2WD, 4WD, cars, buses) will have to fit chains. There are times when only two-wheel drive vehicles will have to fit chains (as at present) while 4WD vehicles are exempted. "But when conditions on the road deteriorate to a point where even to allow the passage^ of 4WD vehicles would be dangerous we reserve the right to require 4WD vehicles to fit chains. ..but this happens very seldom",he said.
