Bridge results

by Bob Tumataroa Bridge on Wednesday 12 May was to be a 'battle - of - the - sexes' with a men's and women's team competing against each other. The event was to be played in four sessions but was shortened to two sessions when two members of the men's team had to leave early. The men's team established a lead of 820 points after the first session and then really put the pressure on in the

second half to finish with a 2,330 point advantage. The women contended that the win was not due to superior play by the men, but due to their placing a surrogate sister, in the guise of 'Gordonia' Mottram, into their ranks to act as saboteur. It will be interesting to see the results of the next round of the 'battle - of - the - sexes' when hopefully both teams will be back to full strength.
