New commander for Irirangi

Lieutenant Commander Tony Forsyth, Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) has been appointed Commanding officer of HMNZS Irirangi, the Naval Radio Station at Waiouru. Lt Com Forsyth was born at Greymouth and educated at Greymouth Technical High School. He joined the RNZN in 1962 as a Seaman Boy. He transferred to the Weapons Engineering Branch during 1964 and was promoted to Warrant Officer during 1976. At this time he administered the Naval Weapon Engineering

School before being appointed to Defence Headquarters as a Management Services Officer involved in Industrial Engineering and System Analysis and Design. Lt Com Forsyth received his commission during 1984. Prior to taking up his present appointment he held the appointment of Executive Officer, HMNZS Irirangi. As Commanding Officer he is responsible for providing radio communications services to the fleet RNZN and units of Allied navies as required.
