Awards for scout family

Recently, awards have been appearing thick and fast in the Hays household, recognising three members of that family for their Scouting endeavours. Laureen, one of the Ohakune group's leaders, completed her Stage Four Advanced Leader Training Course at Tatum Park, near Levin and has been awarded her Wood Badge

beads signifying that she has attained, along with her husband Grant, the highest level of training in the Scouting movement. Just prior to Christmas, John, 13, the Senior Patrol Leader with the Ohakune Troop, was presented with his Chief Scout Award. This represents the highest level of achievement that can be

attained by a Scout, and John follows in the footsteps of his elder brother Warwick who also holds this award. To round off the trio, Grant, the Ohakune Scout Leader for the last eight years and Waimarino District Scout Leader for the past two years, was recently awarded the Chief Scout Commendation by the

National Headquarters of the New Zealand Scout Association. This was in, recognition for his services to the Scouting movement, not solely in our district, but for his training of Scouts and leaders in the Rangitane Area (Horowhenua, Wairarapa, Palmerston North, Fielding, Wanganui, Rangitikei and the Waimarino).
