Community job for policeman
Local policeman Brian Wilson wants to make a difference in his new role as Waimarino community liaison officer. Senior Constable Wilson says he would like to create more of an awareness between the community and offenders. "A lot of the kids in this town are neglected in so many ways. If we can bridge some of those gaps, it will make our job so much easier." Mr Wilson, who joined the police force 18 years ago, will become involved in several areas following his appointment. One is community relations. "I will be trying to enhance the police role in the community," he said. Another is the Law Related Education Programme, which will see him talking about the law primarily to school groups. Thirdly, Mr Wilson will be involved with young offenders and children at risk with youth aid work. "There are a lot of problems around here that fit into these cate-
gories," he said. "I have got my own ideas on what I would like to achieve."
