School to start at Marae
School starts at the Maungarongo Marae in Ohakune next year for some pupils. Following discussions have been held between the Ohakune Primary School Board of Trustees and the Management Committee Maungarongo Marae, it has been decided that from the beginning of Term 1 1993 a Kura Kaupapa Class will be established at the marae. All Kura Ruapapa (total immersion) students will be enrolled through the Primary
School but will be taught at the Marae Classroom where the emphasis will be on educating the children along current lines but using the Maori language. The Kura will adhere to the Ohakune Primary School Charter and the curriculum has been planned in conjunction with the management of the Primary School. The Ohakune Primary School Board of Trustees fully support the establishment of the class and have passed on their best wishes for success in the future.
