Raetihi Plunket Committee feel they have had a successful year. At their Annual General Meeting held 24 August six mothers and the Plunket Nurse were present. Retiring President, Janice Berry, said in her report that due to weather conditions, some activities had to be cancelled, such as the "Teddy Bears' Picnic" at the A & P Show and the Golf tournament which they intended to hold recently. Successful days were had at the "Ohakune Carrot Day" and "Raetihi Lotto Market Day". For funds they have done catering throughout the year and feel these have been successful. Plunket Nurse Carol Harford said in her report that the number of new baby cases in Raetihi last year was 50, an increase of 16 over the previous year. Carol and Karitane Nurse Lesley Proude have been working together sharing home visits. Lesley has been in much demand with sick children and helping families in distress. The Plunket Committee work very hard to raise money to keep this service going and they would like to see more mothers on the Committee. Committee members benefit from support artd
friendship of other mothers of young children. Also at Committee Meetings they have some very interesting guest speakers. They need to raise about $650 per month. This money is used for a portion of both the Karitane and Plunket Nurses' wages, running a car for the Nurse, administration costs and maintenance of the Plunket Rooms. The new Committee is: President Debbie Alabaster; Vice-President Janice Berry; Secretary Janice Berry; Treasurer Leigh Berry; Committee Cath Meyer.
