Eight-ball challenge

R\

rRTC

Eight-ball adjunct players from the Raetihi and Palmerston North Cosmopolitan Clubs challenge each other for the CG Fowlie Memorial Shield This Shield is played for twice a year and in April, Palmerston North came to Raetihi to play for this and the score was a tie. On 22 August 12 players from Raetihi went to Palmerston North to coritest this Shield again. Palmerston North were the winners by 24-17. On Sunday, during friendly games, Raetihi beat Palmerston North. These two challenges are looked forward to each year as the games are played in a friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately a very enjoyable weekend ended on a sad note. On Sunday afternoon one of the Palmerston North players, who has played in all of these competitions since they began three years ago and was Palmerston North's top eight ball player, was killed in a motor vehicle accident. Members of the Raetihi eight ball adjunct travelled to Palmerston North on Wednesday to attend his funeral.
