Kuratau
King Country Energy's Kuratau Power Station generated nearly a million units more in May this year than at the same time last year - and water had to be spilled during the period. The May figure was up 51.4 percent on last year, with 2.73 million units generated by the station (1.8 million in May 1991). While the South Island hydro lakes are slowly recovering from what has been claimed as a 100-year drought, the six-megawatt Kuratau Station generated nearly 20 percent more power in April and May than it did in the same period in 1991.
