Mountain closed, for us?
• Sitting home beside the fire, with that cosy feeling I suddenly thought, with so much misery and cold weather around, it was time someone came up with an idea to boost this little tourist town. With the carrot festival coming up, this little tourist-town-to-be is going to need a lot of publicity for future carrot festivals. As there are so many ratepayers and business people in this little tourist town, many of us would dearly love a day up the mountain with their families, but can't afford a lift pass or a light snack in one of the restaurants. My idea is! That Turoa Skifield closes for 11 July (carrot festival) and all the money that would have been spent up the Turoa Skifield, would be spent down in our local tourist town. That way us ratepayers and businesses who so kindly give discounts to Turoa Staff may make enough pocket money to be able to spend it on a day up the mountain. Who knows? The would-be skiers who so kindly spent their money down town may be so overwhelmed with the hospitality of us locals, that on their next return to Turoa, they bring a friend or two. With so many people then enjoying themselves, as well as us locals up the mountain, Turoa may then need extra staff, to cope with the vast number of people. With so many locals being turned down for employment up the mountain and being made to feel like useless bums there is hope for us yet? Pocket Moneyless - local
