"I dialled it my way"
• I think the Bulletin and those of us living in the free-dialing area of the Waimarino should ignore the Telecom directory system of presenting telephone numbers in a group of 3 digits followed by 4 digits (eg 385-8123) and revert to the former style of putting the emphasis on the last three digits (eg3858-123). Since all Waiouru numbers are preceded by 3876, Raetihi numbers by 3854 and Ohakune numbers by either 3858 or 3859, it is much easier to remember only the last three digits as it is this final grouping which identifies the individual subscriber. If the Bulletin and its advertisers were to adopt this recommendation it would certainly make it a lot easier for readers and callers to memorise. Dennis Beytagh The Bulletin has attempted to adopt this style, but going against the tide of Telecom's way of doing things is a bit like King Kanut's attempt to stop the sea's tide!
