Spiral road
Following the Ruapehu District Council's decision to name and rename some of the roads within the District pursuant to Section 716B of the Local Government Act, 1974, a proposal was made to name two as-yet un-named roads in Raurimu. One, the road starting at the North Island Main Trunk railway line and leading to the top of the hill adjacent to the Raurimu spiral railway tunnels, was to be named Top Mill Road. The other, the road leading to the old Raurimu Domain is to be named Domain Road. Since those proposals were made a late submis-
sion has been received by Susan and Michael Brown of Raurimu suggesting two alternatives to Top Mill Road. They suggested this road be named either Spiral Road (as this leads to the Raurimu Spiral tunnels) or Holmes Road (as this is the engineer who surveyed the area for the Main Trunk Line). Neither of these names had been put forward at the earlier Community Board meeting but at last week's full Council meeting it was generally agreed that these alternatives be reconsidered at the next Ward meeting with most councillors favouring the name 'Spiral Road'.
