Army drivers rally round

Royal New Zealand Corps of Transport (RNZT) personnel celebrated Corps Day by participating in a mystery car tour, barbecue lunch, sporting events and games for families

in the afternoon and a barn dance in the evening, on 16 May. The mission of the 'mystery car tour' was "to complete the tour with a high sense of spirit and adventure and

to succeed in all aspects of the tour is a bonus and not to succeed may cause some geographical embarrassment." The event involved navigation from vehicles and identifying

where checkpoints are from cryptic clues given and started at the Waiouru Rugby Club at 9am. Twenty cars gathered for the car rally, prizes were awarded for the best decorated car.

The winner was 'The Tango and Cash Team' driven by Driver Taurerewa. Some of the clues were: times gone by, (The Museum); where the orecipe of death is, (the guard house); change for good, (the Shell Petrol Station); hell's gate, (Helwan Camp); where the baggies wish they could go, (the corporals club); where the baggies go when on the dry, (dry canteen); bull... castle, (officer's mess); a colonel's inheritance, (Colonel Sinclair's house); as many tracks as trogs ironing, (the railway station); sick parade, (the hospital). After reaching the check point, contestants were required to act out a skit. or sing a nursery rhyme. The corps day was organised mainly by an enthusiastic group of drivers and junior ranks, including Driver Melissa Brown for the mystery car tour, Cpl Peter Scott

for the lunch and evening supper, Driver Brian Clarke for the sports afternoon and eoordinators for the day were Sgt Kahui and SSgt iLloyd Stone.

The Day is normally held on 12 May, but this year celebrations were held on Saturday 16, due to absent catering staff and transport movement personnel.
