Hospital bathroom revamped
By
RIC
The Waimarino Rural Health Centre has a new bathroom which is designed to be more convenient for patients. Included in this bathroom is a spa bath, a large shower unit with easier access for the less mobile patients. It is possible to sit on a commode while showering. The bathroom is for the use of all the hospital patients, as well as people who are having physiotherapy treatment. Physiotheraspist Sue Baddeley said with the use if the spa bath and the extra equipment she now has, it has made her job easier. The spa bath is good for people who may be battered and bruised, perhaps from a
vehicle accident. The spa jets stimulates circulation, but it can not be used for people with high blood pressure, heart problems or with broken skin. The new equipment has come from the Lake Alice hospital physiotherapy department, which has now closed down. Included in the new equipment is a micro-wave machine which is used for superficial tissue damage treatment. An ul-tra-violet machine is used to treat skin wounds, acne, and infected ulcers. Sue is writing to local doctors in the next few weeks to tell them about the new equipment she has and what it is used for.
