Call for signs

Signs at the State Highway Four/ Raetihi Ohakune Road should include directions to Auckland and Wellington. So says Waimarino

Community Board chairman Colin Webb. He was commenting on the new signs for the intersection which have been ordered. The signs point to Ohakune,

Pipiriki, Wanganui via Pipiriki and Seddon Street. Mr Webb said many travellers have to stop and ask for directions there. "People travelling in New Zealand, when they arrive in Raetihi, they are totally disoriented." He said they almost always wanted to know which way to Auckland or Wellington. "But we want people to stop here, and without the signs it does made them stop in Raetihi," said Ben Goddard. Mr Houston said Transit New Zealand (who sets the rules) puts signs for the larger centres only at "strategic interfaces".
