King Country Energy wins award
Receiving one of two merit awards in the national Premier Electricity Marketing Retailer Award (PERMA) competition organised by Electricorp Marketing effectively makes King Country Energy one of the three top power boards in the country, the board has been told. The overall PERMA
award was won by South Canterbury Electricity, while last year's winner. Counties Power, also received a merit award at
the national presentations in Wellington. In complimenting general manager Peter Till and his team on
their achievement, chairperson Ken Street said at the March board meeting it was yet another boost for King
Country Energy's already high national profile. The board's efforts were being used as an example by others - the clerical workers union cited King Country Energy as a good employer in their submissions to the Select Committee on the Energy Sector Reform Bill, Mr Street said. Director Tony Palmer said King Country Energy has an extremely high profile wherever he
goes, and receives a "mention in dispatches" in the least likely places. Fellow director Gordon Gower said the board's efforts are tremendous, given that it is one of the smallest boards. Mr Till said Electricorp Marketing's general manager Drew Stein commented that boards that do well in the PERMA competition are those who will do best under deregulation.
