Rodeo cancelled for stock's safety

by

ric

Wet weather causing slippery ground forced the cancellation of the 42nd annual Waimarino Rodeo. Saturday 21 March started out with heavy rain, so the Rodeo committee made the decision to postpone activities until the next day. As

there was not much improvement in the weather on Sunday, the decision was made to cancel the rodeo for 1992. Secretary Leslie Brown said in the 10 years she has been secretary it is only the second time it has been cancelled. The association owns the rodeo horses, but as the cattle are borrowed they could not take the risk of hav-

ing them or the riders falling in the slippery conditions and getting killed or injured. Another of the problems was vehicle access. The big trucks could not get through the mud to transport the animals in to the show grounds. The smaller trucks that were able to get in on Friday night had to be towed out later.
