Complex name comp drawn
After much deliberation Ohakune builder Peter Richards has chosen a winner for the competition to name the developmenl that now houses the Trust Bank, dental clinic and Headquarters for Hair salon. From about 50 entries, he has chosen Glyn Hubbard's, who suggested "Pioneer Place" and "Awatea Centre", which he said was the original name for Goldfinch Street. Mr Hubbard wins a dinner for two to the Sunbeam Lodge restaurant.
Mr Richards, the developer of the site which will eventually cover the corner of Ayr Street and Goldfinch Street, said he is still investigating possible names for the complex, and welcomes further suggestions. Other names suggested in the competition included: "The Samuel Rye Complex", "Goldfinch Square", "Mountain Square", "Gold Complex", and "The Richards Centre" (There' s no truth in the rumour Peter entered. his own competition!: Editor.)
