Ruapehu Hotel Raetihi is the first pub in the Waimarino and Rangitikei areas to have new electronic dart boards. The dart club at the hotel has a healthy number, 52 financial players, and they will be holding a pairs darts tournament this weekend. Players will be coming from New Plymouth, Wanganui and Taihape as well as from Ohakune and Raetihi, vying for $1,000 in prize money. Entry is open to any dart player who wants to have a go. Apart from the main prizes, there are prizes for highest three dart finish and highest male and female score. Since August 1991 the hotel has had three of the electronic dart boards and Steve Gray, Co-ordinator of the dart club said "for the first six weeks interest was slow, but now it is proving to be a very popular game." The players start with soft tip darts and after playing with these, they can easily adapt to using , the older style steel tip ! darts. Club nights are held Tuesday nights at the hotel starting at 8pm.
