Army's enemy due soon
The Ready Reaction Force (RRF) of the New Zealand Army is running Exercise Lothlorien in the Waiouru Training area from 3 - 14 April. The exercise is an 'esculated low level environment with an organised enemy force'. The main headquarters will be at Helwan camp. This is the first time the RRF from Linton will exercise together since the recent army restructuring and allows an Infantry Battalion (1RNZIR) to exercise with combat and logistic support elements. In-
fantry soldiers will be working with artillery, armour, engineers and the Airforce. - The exercise scenario involves the mythical island of Colchis (North Island) which has a history of social and political disruption and has been encouraged and supported by a neighbouring socialist country, Musoria.
In 1989, at the request of the legitimate Colchian Government, ANZAC Forces have been assisting to re-es-tablish government control and eradicate Musorian influence and their military advisers. This is proving to be a long and drawn out process and ANZAC Forces are required to deploy to counter a recent upsurge
in Musorian-backed terrorist activities. The military arm of the Cholchian insurgent problem is the Peoples Democratic Militia (PDM). Exercise Lothlorien will involve NZ's RRF participating as part of the ANZAC Forces to quell the insurgent problem, in support of the Colchian Government.
