Seven aside rugby

A rugby seven aside tournament was held in Waiouru on the 14 March to raise funds for Sergeant Gavin MacNaughton, a victim of a motorcycle accident. The accident which happened in the Waiouru Training Area, has left him a paraplegic, Sergeant MacNaughton is rehabilitating in the Otara Spinal Unit at present. The social, seven aside touch rugby tournament was held by the Waiouru Rugby and Netball Club and the League Club. Thirteen teams entered and each team played six games. Organisers said they were pleased with the support from the community. Funds were raised from the teams' entry fee and profits from the mobile canteen. Results: Winner A Plate; 'KLC' (a regular force junior NCO course team). Winner B Plate; 'Public Enemy' (a school boys team).
