AS PART OF THE Taumarunui water supply investigations, the Punga Punga Stream is to be fitted with a gauging station to accurately assess the low flows during summer and therefore its future viability as a water source for Taumarunui. This gauging work is planned to begin this December. The location of any proposed intake would be at the bush line. The information obtained from gauging from one or two years flow should be sufficient to get an accurate assessment of the contribution the Punga Punga could make to Taumarunui's water supply. It is believed that if used in conjunction with either the Matapuna or Ongarue Plant, the Punga Punga Stream could provide an economical source of good quality water.
