Biggest Army exercise

Waiouru's Officer Cadet School (OCS) begins one of the Army's largest exercises this year, during 16-28 November. Exercise Takrouna is a live-firing tactical exercise involving over 700
regular force personnel. The personnel are organised roughly into a Battalion group. All of the Army's Arms and Service Corps are represented. Some of the key manoeuvre units include; C Company and the Mortar platoon of 1 RNZIR, the Regular Force Cadet School, 161 Battery, lst Armoured Group, 10 Transport Squadron as well as RNZAF helicopter, fixed wing transport and strike support. The main objectives for the exercise are: for the OCS Senior Class to
give students an opportunity to consolidate their command, tactical and field skills in a conventional setting within a company and battalion environment; for the Junior Class to assess the ability of students to operate in a variety of tactical situations a section level in a platoon setting; and for the Regular Force Cadets to practice the field skills required of infantry soldiers. From page 3 derstanding of combined arms operations in offensive and defensive phases of war. Exercise Takrouna is an annual event which represents the culmination of the year's training of the Officer Cadet class which graduates in December. It also represents a huge effort on behalf of the OCS staff who are co-ordinating the exercise.
