School block blessed

The Raetihi School Junior Block was officially opened and blessed last Thursday. Rev. P Barns opened with a prayer followed by the school pupils singing "Majesty". Rev T Hawira said a short prayer then went on to bless the six rooms involved. Rev. B Cox followed and explained the significance of the buildings and their purposes to the

assembled teachers and pupils. Bill Thompson spoke about the difference in attitudes of today's children compared to his school years. The Ratana Church minister, R Williams explained the significance of the blessing and went on to close the ceremony. Present were: the Waimarino School Advisory Officer, Mr J Pohatu; the Revs P Barnes, T Hawira and R

i Williams; Kaumatua D ■ Mills, B Thompson and ] S Haitana. Also present , were family members of i the students. A special ■ note was taken that Mrs 1 G Martin, whose mother | had attended the school | at its previous location, i was also at the 1 ceremony. The upgrading of the ( Junior Block cost i $475,000, which 1 included the pre-school J and bi-lingual units.
