Railranger visit

About 350 train passengers will be spending nearly an hour in Ohakune next Saturday afternoon when the Wanganui Chronicle 'Railranger' stops during its 700 km run between Wanganui, Stratford, Taumarunui, Ohakune, Waiouru, Taihape, Marton and back to Wanganui and Stratford. This excursion described as 'Round-the-Mountain', has been organised by the Chronicle in conjunction with Steam Incorporated of Paekakariki who will provide the vintage carriages and the 'vintage' DA diesel locomotive.

The train is due to arrive in Ohakune at 4 pm and leave again at about 4.45 pm. During their stop-over in Ohakune the local MTRO (Main Trunk Rail Ohakune) group have organised several activities for the passengers who range in age from young children to the elderly. Depending upon their individual choices, the options include a short bush walk, a drive up the Mountain Road, refreshments at the Powderkeg and inspection of the Ohakune railyards, turntable site and other recent developments in the Junction area.
