Overstayers vanish
At last month's Ohakune District Court's sitting, removal warrants were issued for 12 Fijian Indian overstayers. All had been working on farms and market gardens in the Ohakune area and were charged with overstaying their entry permits. None of the defendants appeared in Court. Past experience showed that such overstayers simply disappear from the area when removal warrants are issued, said Stephen Ross from the Crown Solicitor's office in Wanganui which brought the prosecution on behalf of the Immigration Department.
