Weed money

The Waimarino Community Board has not given up on fighting roadside weeds and has asked that $700 be allocated from the parks and reserves account to pay for spray for old man's beard. The board's earlier request that more than $2000 be made available was turned down by the council. The board heard at

their last meeting that volunteers from Rotary had cut back much of the old man's beard in the area and that now the new spring growth needed spraying to stop in regenerating. "We don't want to end up like Taumarunui," said member Winston Oliver. "These weeds are spreading faster than people think."
