Meat plant delay likely

AFFCO's appeal against the Raetihi district scheme change could be heard within the next few weeks depending on the workload of the Planning Tribunal. But if the process of considering the appeal follows the norm the plant could be delayed for months. The meat industry company has appealed against the approval of the change which was

made to allow the establishment of a meat processing plant at Raetihi. AFFCO Taumarunui would not be any better off however, if the plans do not go ahead at Raetihi as the second choice for the company is Ohakune which is the same distance away from the Taumarunui AFFCO plant. Ohakune's scheme already allows for the type of plant that is planned.
