Maori visit
A bus load of young Maori from Wanganui spent part of their May holidays in the Waimarino. The school children, aged from 9-17, had four group leaders and several adults supporters. Many local youths joined them in the activities during the week as well as many people from as far away as Hastings and Gisborne, making about 80 people. The group attended the wananga at Te Puke Marae in Raetihi from 17 to 19 Mat and then continued to Makakahi where they stayed at Doug Prince's Toktokerau property. On the Monday they looked around the area and went crayfishing and on Tuesday a fivehour walk to Papatupu along the Man-
ganuioteao. A barbecue at Ruatiti Domain preceded their return home on Thursday. Waitahu Parae Marae committee organised the trip in conjunction with Mema Gawler from the Department of Social Welfare in Wanganui. The Ponga family expressed their thanks to Doug Prince and Kopia station .whose co-opera-tion made the trip possible.
