Electricorp urged to talk on Tongariro
At the recent meeting of the Tongariro/Taupo Conservation board members were concerned at the apparent reluctance of Electricorp to set dates for discussion with the Department of Conservation and other parties in connection with the 1993 hearing for the water rights on the world famous Tongariro River. On behalf of the board Acting chairman John Ryan stated that negotiations on the future of the Tongariro River were vital to the future
ofthe whole Lake Taupo fishery. The board considered that Electricorp seemed to be dragging the chain and had learned little from the adverse decision on the Wanganui'. "Electricorp is not seen in a very good light," said Mr Ryan,"
and the Tongariro River problem could provide a means of redrawing its image with the public." The board had urged the department to press for a date for preliminary discussions and trusted that these would be held urgently.
