VNZ costs
The Ruapehu District Council, along with most other councils, has balked at moves by the government to pass on some of Valuation New Zealand's costs to them. The Local Government Association has estimated the proposed charges to local authorities will add 20 per cent of the VNZ costs to district councils and 15 per cent to regional councils. Councillors expressed disgust at the government's actions, which they said was a transference of central government taxation, while the government was encouraging nil rate increases.
