AMALGAMATION
Although the first 10 minutes of the rugby game between Raetihi and Huia started slowly it turned into a fiery encounter with Huia out-right victors at 260 at full time. First points scoring opportunity went to Raetihi when they were awarded a penalty just inside the half. Unfortunately Wayne Te Huia missed the kick and Huia scored the first points 20 minutes into the game with a try. From a scrum ball and quick hands through their back line Huia scored again but failed to convert both of their tries. Raetihi had a brilliant try scoring opportunity just before half time but Paul Jones was pulled up short of the line. The half time score was 8-0 to Huia. Huia scored the majority of their points in the second half with two tries in the last 15 minutes. The second half was not without incident as numerous penalties were awarded to both sides for fighting and verbally abusing the referee. Raetihi half back Aaron McCann was sent off 10 minutes before full time for an alleged stomping incident which will be investigated through the Union's judiciary on Wednesday evening. Man - of the match awards were given to Robert Adams and Tony Bird for Huia and Raetihi voted for the hooker Raymond Rapana and Huia Number eight Dean Bell. Scorers for Huia were tries; David Kereti 2, Kylie Chase, Thomas Scott, Brent Hamilton and Lee Turnbull. Kylie Chase one conversion.
