POLICE FILE
A house in Lee Street, Ohakune was cleaned out of $5000 worth of furniture, sports goods and appliances by burglars sometime 19 February to 12 March. They even took the toilet seat and cistern. The property stolen included liquor, two televisions, a lounge suite, an oven, a pool table, an American brand quadrophonic 8-track stereo, a clothes drier, blankets, ski gear including a monoski, a pair of Dynastar skis and
ski jacket, a dive camera, electric hand tools including sander and planer. Police sergeant Bob Evans said the burglary highlights the need for local keyholders of houses of absentee owners. He said if they had been notified of the burglary much sooner they would have a much better chance of finding the thieves. Sgt Evans said the thieves, who obviously used a truck, also left a lot of damage to the house. Another ski house, in Ti Kouka Place, was burgled over a similar time span, and police are waiting to hear from the owners for details of property stolen.
