Flowers and trips for senior citizens

A bus load of Raetihi Senior Citizens are travelling to Taumarunui to have a luncheon with the Taumarunui Senior Citizens at their club rooms on 14 March. Each year the two groups host each other for a meal. Raetihi will return the favour later in the year. The Raetihi . Senior Citizens usually hold their monthly meetings at the Waimarino Club Hall on the third Wednesday afternoon of the month. This year the group are hoping to take more trips and visits to places of interest both locally and further

afield. Last month's planned trip to look over the gentiana flower operation run by Alf Alabaster and Adrian Godfrey had to be postponed for a week because of bad weather. The visit took place on 27 February when about 20 senior citizens were shown around by Mr Alabaster who spoke to them about what is involved with growing and exporting the flowers to Japan. When the senior citizens left they were given a bunch of gentiana flowers. From there the group went to Makotoku Estate for afternoon tea before returning home.
