College triathletes

A group of Ruapehu College pupils competed in a triathlon for the first time in Rotorua recently. The competition was the Central North Island Secondary Schools Bay of Plenty Championships and the Ruapehu teams who took part were a junior girls' team of Nicola Cast, Leslie Fowlie and Sherry Hansen and a boys' team of Nathan Swain, Stacey Cranston and Aneas O'Sullivan, as well as individual competitors Phillip Hawkins and Geoff Pitts. The girl's team was placed 10th out of 24 and the boys in the low 20s. College principal Harry Cast said the trip was the first of its kind and that the results were pleasing. He said all who went have decided to compete as individuals next time.
