Raetihi playcentre in top shape
byGailLmhoff Children, parents and supervisor are especially enjoying being back at the Raetihi Playcentre this year as over the holidays repairs and upgrading work at the centre has been carried out. The kitchen has been remodelled to meet safety standards and to make room for a new office area, the toilet facilities have been improved with hot water being installed along with new toilets and basin. Also a new fence has been built around the section to make it childproof from the inside and the outdoor play area has been redesigned. $10,000 has been spent on new
equipment for the children to play with. This has all been necessary to meet the minimum standards for early childhood centres as specified by the Ministry of Education. As well as the upgrading, general repairs and maintainence has been carried out, such as new roofing and guttering where needed, and the exterior of the building has been painted. There are still a few jobs to be done - the new extension walls and floor need painting and the play area needs finishing. It is also planned to plant gardens at the entrance to make the whole area more inviting.
