Whakapapa summer progress

Work on the Whakapapa Happy Valley snowmaking system is going well, with water reticulation pipes due to be installed soon. The pipes will be flown in by helicopter. Tenders are still being sought for the construction of a new creche building at the top of the Bruce, and work is under way on improving the Knoll Ridge cafe toilets. Marketing manager Scott Lee said work the regional marketing plan, which involves Whakapapa, Turoa and "almost all" of the area's tourist operators, is going well. He said response to the plan has been almost universally positive, even though some of the smaller operators can not afford to take part. He said there has been no ill-feeling towards those operators, and that their support is still welcome. "It is a little expensive for some people, especially for many who have financial problems at present," he said. A progress meeting is

to be held at the Chateau on Monday 11 March, which will be the last

chance for people to join in the programme, said Mr Lee. The draft

for the promotion flier will be presented at the meeting.
