Waiouru Mountain Classic golf
The tenth Mountain Classic was held at the Waiouru Golf Club on Saturday 9 February. The day was typically Waiouru; dry, hot and no wind, said organiser Peter Pitts. A field of 120, representing golf clubs from Wellington to Napier and Hawera to Hamilton, played two rounds in glorious sunshine. The end of play saw two Waiouru players, Paul Creedy and Lloyd Shuttleworth tie for the main trophy, on gross 145. A sudden-death play-off on the 17th resulted in Lloyd Shuttleworth winning on the 18th hole after a magnificent second shot to within 12 inches of the hole. An enthusiastic band of volunteers kept the players well fed and thirsts quenched. Results are: Ladies stableford: 3rd Beryl Brausch Dannevirke; r/up Celia Holt Te Marua.
