No bridge decision

The decision as to whether the council should maintain a 1 .5 metre swing bridge across the Manganuiateao River was deferred at the last Waimarino Community Board meeting. The Board heard that the bridge is not wide enough to carry a car and would not be eligible for subsidy. The Board heard from land owner Winston. Oliver (also a board member, who declared an interest in the matter and did not take part in the decision), that the bridge was used by rafters and fishermen. The Board decided the matter should lie on the table pending clarification of some legal points and to look at the public use of the bridge. The Board also dis-

cussed the maintenance of the Hukuroa Extension Road, which was subject to an application for maintenance beyond a cattlestop and decided it should be maintained, provided the land owners maintain the water tables to the satisfaction of the council and that once a year the council would clear the water tables, and that the land

owners be informed that the clearance of slips or other major repairs would be their responsibility. The Board was told that with the road being unfenced the water tables were subject to regular damage from stock which could lead to major damage.
