Broom flying in park

Whakapapa conservation staff went broom flying" last week, but it had nothing to do with witches. A helicopter was used to ferry staff equipped with spray back packs,to isolated patches of broom in the northern parts of the Tongariro National Park. Because the broom is in small, far flung patches it is more cost effective to fly people in to spray it, said field centre manager Russell Montgomery. He said some patches only needed a few minutes' work but would take a day to get to on foot.
