Ruapehu service for blizzard victims
A service was planned for yesterday, midday, at the Dome Shelter on Ruapehu for the parents of the victims of last August's Army training exercise tragedy where six service men died after being trapped in a blizzard. As well as the parents Army personnel from the men's battalion were to attend. The Army has organised the service, conducted by an Army chaplain, with parents unable to walk to the Crater area being flown in by helicopter. A plaque was to be erected at the Dome shelter commemorating the tragedy.
