Canadian convoy
A convoy of Canadian campervaners converged on the camp ground at Raetihi last week. 11 campervans with a couple in each stopped for a night on their way from Otorohanga to Wellington. They were part of a tour led by a New Zealand guide and chose Raetihi after one of their number was impressed with the area during a visit a few years ago. The group ate trout they caught on their way through the North Island in a feast cooked up on the camp barbecues. Reporting on the number of visitors, camp proprietor Bob Graves said overall the summer had been "quite good". He said numbers of people tenting and caravaning were down but the number of people renting on-site vans up. Campervans were about the same number as usual, he said. About 80 per cent of campers were overseas visitors.
