Scouts to build lodge

The Ruapehu Scouts group are building a ski lodge and have started some serious fund raising towards it, though one of the main reasons for the lodge is that they are tired of fund raising. Scout Group representative Mike Fetzer said the group is constantly fund raising, with the money being swallowed up in operational expenses. He said the lodge would lead to the group becoming self sufficient with scout groups from other areas using it. There is a scout lodge at Whakapapa which Mr Fetzer said was booked up for much of the winter. The lodge in Lee Street, next to the Scout hall, would provide an alternative. The lodge would be a 24 bed Lockwood.

Building is planned to start early in the new year. The group has been distributing Telecom telephone books in Raetihi and Ohakune on

contract to raise funds, and advise that anyone who did not receive a book can contact Warren Swain at Ohakune Tyres and Energy in Clyde Street.
