Sth Ruapehu house building figures up

Building permit figures for houses for the Waimarino are up on last year's figures so far for 1990. Last year in January through to May eight house building permits were issued while in the same period this year ten have been issued. Building inspector Jeff Fahey said this "bit of a lift" was promising. He said there is also a major project coming up for

Waiouru plus the council is contemplating making a start on the Waiouru subdivision. Mr Fahey said the council would like to hear from anyone who is interested in buying a section in Waiouru. Permits for alterations and extensions are lower for the year, 33 this year and 47 for last year. Mr Fahey reminded people of the importance of obtaining a building permit. He

said apart from the aspect of keeping building work up to standard there can also be problems with insurance for people who carry but illegal work. He said builders in this area are particularly good in seeing permits are obtained but that there have been problems with amateur builders. The council will be carry ing out a blitz on illegal work soon, said Mr Fahey.
