LOCAL AUTHORITY INFORMATION LAW TO BE REVIEWED

A government working party has been set up to review the public meetings part of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987. Minister of Local Government Dr Michael Bassett has expressed concern that there are local bodies conducting too much of their business behind closed doors. He said local authorities should conduct as much of their business as possible in the public eye, to ensure accountability and promote more effective public oarticioation.
