NZ VOTING SYSTEM REFERENDUM THIS YEAR

The King Country general electorate is to be one of 20 to be included in an independently run referendum on proportional representation in New Zealand. The Electoral Reform Coalition is planning to run the referendum on the day of this year's general election and will set up voting booths outside every official booth in the chosen electorates. The coalition says it has chosen the 20 seats as a representative sample of electorates covering Labour and National, Town and country, safe seats and marginal seats and is calling on all parties and a wide variety of groups and individuals for support for the referendum on New Zealand's voting system.
