DAHLIA SHOW RETURNS

Ohakune's Dahlia Show is being resurrected, having last been run in 1971. The first for the 1990s is on this Saturday, 10 February at the Lions' Den in Arawa Street. The show was run by the Ohakune Plunket Society through the sixties, with gardeners such as Heather Cranston, Mrs Reid and Olive Frew winning prizes. Christine Dann, a well-known gardening writer from Dunedin, is to be the guest speaker. She wrote "Wilderness Women in New Zealand" and "Cottage Gardening in New Zealand" and is a regular contributor to the Gardener magazine. This year only dahlias will entered but organisers hope to include other flowers in future shows.
