Shop days OK
With reference to my letter in your paper last week regarding clubs and community organisations having to submit a schedule to the Ruapehu District Council now for the 1990 year giving dates of proposed shop days and street appeals, I wish to advise that I have received a reply from Mr
Houston, General Manager of Ruapehu District Council. In my letter to Mr Houston I stated that it was impossible for small clubs and community organisations to set dates for these shop days at this time as they would not know until some time next year if and when they would need to hold these functions in order to raise money. Mr Houston replies: "That while some organisations are in a position to note their requirements for 1990 now that these can be slotted into a calendar, further applications can be considered as and when required subject to there being no conflict with those already approved. The Council are prepared to receive applications on an ongoing basis but those who schedule their requirements early are most likely to get their date of choice." I just wish to let these organisations know that they can still apply next year if and when the need arises. They will not be turned down just because they have not submitted a schedule as requested to do so, but they would need to apply to Council as early as possible in order for their applications to go through the proper channels. When doing this may I suggest that they give Council several dates in case one of those applied for may be booked. I thank Council for replying to my letter.
